The Peter Munk Cardiac Centre is known for its ability to care for the most complex cardiac cases. It is the expertise, knowledge and access to state-of-the-art technology that allows our specialists to treat and save the lives of cardiac patients needing multifaceted care. We are expanding our infrastructure to include two state-of-the-art Electrophysiology Suites.

This expansion will:

    • Allow for rapid access to arrhythmia therapies
    • Create a Centre of Excellence dedicated to ablation therapy
    • Attract specialized operators who seek out institutions with state-of-the-art equipment and a high volume of cases
    • Establish a state-of-the-art suite dedicated to complex patient cases
    • Increase the volume of routine ablation cases by more than 15% and increase the volume of complex cases by 60%

ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY SUITE #1


Single plane fluoroscopy $1.2M: Obtains real-time moving images of the internal structures of a patient with decreased dose rates
Workmate Mapping System $400k: Information from the tip of the catheter is displayed using this mapping system to show patients electrical (cardiac) information
EP Stimulator $80k: Stops and starts arrhythmias
RF Generator $75k: Delivers ablation treatment
Lead Shield $75k: Protective shield for specialists during exposure to x-rays


ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY SUITE #2


Bi-plane fluoroscopy $2M: Real-time moving images of the internal structures of a patient, decreased dose rates and improved localization for complex cases from Bi-plane
Lead Shield $75k: Protective shield for specialists during exposure to x-rays
RF Generator $75k: Delivers ablation treatment
Integrated Complex Mapping System $600k: System to show the electrical map of a patient in 3D, for improved visuals
Odyssey Integrated Monitor and Control Room System $600k: Stores all the data and displays it on one monitor system mounted to a swinging boom to allow operator and nurses in control room to see it


Innovative Equipment Reference

Both single and bi-plane fluoroscopy units allow for tremendous visibility, clarity and versatility in a patient’s electrical map to assist in the most accurate treatment possible.
RF Generator utilizes the most advanced radiofrequency (RF) ablation technology to provide maximum control, exceptional safety and versatility.
This Mapping System allows physicians to choose the best diagnostic or ablation catheters for each case. This system will integrate with existing and future technologies.
Odyssey Integrated Monitor and Control Room System, integrates the complex array of clinical data into a consolidated display of information accessible by all participants in the electrophysiology suite and in the control room.
